Non-locality and single meta-atom spectroscopy in THz Landau polaritons

چکیده

We will discuss, theoretically and experimentally, the existence of a limit to possibility arbitrarily increasing electromagnetic confinement in polaritonic systems, where strongly sub-wavelength fields can excite continuum high-momenta propagative magnetoplasmons. This leads peculiar nonlocal effects, as certain features disappear system enters regime discrete-to-continuum strong coupling. well present experiments reporting spectroscopy single, ultrastrongly coupled, highly subwavelength resonator operating at 300 GHz.

On-Chip THz Spectroscopy System

The research report presents the chip-scale solutions for THz spectroscopy applications. On the transmitter side, the architecture achieves dynamic waveform shaping of THz periodic waveform in free space by allowing interference of radiated electromagnetic-fields with rich harmonic components and proper delays at far field. On the receiver side, the electromagnetic interface between the on-chip...

Absorption spectroscopy at the limit: detection of a single atom.

We investigate the sensitivity limit of absorption spectroscopy. An experiment is described in which the decrease in transmitted light intensity that is due to absorption by a single, electromagnetically confined atomic ion is observed.

Single-atom electron energy loss spectroscopy of light elements

Light elements such as alkali metal (lithium, sodium) or halogen (fluorine, chlorine) are present in various substances and indeed play significant roles in our life. Although atomic behaviours of these elements are often a key to resolve chemical or biological activities, they are hardly visible in transmission electron microscope because of their smaller scattering power and higher knock-on p...

Single-atom detection of light elements: Imaging or spectroscopy?

Single-atom imaging and spectroscopy at a lower accelerating voltage (~60kV) has been largely facilitated by the development of aberration correctors for transmission electron microscopy (TEM)/ scanning TEM (STEM). Such an STEM condition will reduce beam damage and has therefore been demonstrated capable of detecting individual atoms of light elements including B, C, and N in mono-layered mater...
